At Ramagya School, Sector 50, student well-being and safety stand at the core of our educational philosophy. As we embark on a new academic session, we continue to prioritize creating a safe, inclusive, and supportive environment for every learner. With this vision in mind, Ramagya School organized a comprehensive and empowering POCSO (Protection of Children from Sexual Offences) Workshop for students of Grades IX to XII on April 22, 2025.

The session was conducted in two batches and facilitated by Ms. Yashika Malhotra, a highly respected and RCI-registered Rehabilitation Counsellor, Therapist, and Developmental Psychologist. With her extensive experience in child psychology and adolescent counselling, Ms. Malhotra created an engaging and safe space for students to explore important and often unspoken topics around personal safety and protection.

Fostering Awareness Through Interactive Learning

To initiate the session and set an engaging tone, students began with a word search activity. Key terms such as “consent,” “boundaries,” “trust,” “safety,” “abuse,” and “report” sparked curiosity and encouraged students to think about the meaning behind each word. This interactive icebreaker served as a gentle yet impactful segue into deeper, more meaningful discussions.

Understanding the POCSO Act: Rights, Safety, and the Power to Speak Up

The core of the workshop focused on sensitizing students about the POCSO Act—its importance, implications, and real-life relevance. Students learned how the Act protects children from various forms of sexual abuse and exploitation, and were introduced to the legal provisions and supportive systems available for their safety. Ms. Malhotra also addressed key topics such as:

  • Safe and unsafe touch
  • Personal boundaries and consent
  • Digital safety in the age of technology
  • Recognizing inappropriate behavior
  • How and where to report concerns
  • The importance of speaking out without fear or shame

Reflection and Reinforcement

To help students process their learning, the session concluded with a personal reflection activity. Each student was given a reflection sheet to pen down their thoughts, learnings, and takeaways from the workshop. The responses reflected a newfound awareness, confidence, and readiness to protect not only themselves but also their peers.

The Takeaway Message

The workshop ended on a powerful and inspiring note from Ms. Malhotra: “Your voice is your strength. Use it to protect yourself and others.”
At Ramagya, we believe that knowledge is the first step toward empowerment. Through workshops like these, we strive to build a generation that is not only academically sound but emotionally aware, socially responsible, and unafraid to stand up for what’s right.
